Clarity of purpose, consistent effort, and guidance at the appropriate time are essential components of success in higher education. Kamal Kant Mahto's story perfectly reflects all of these principles, as he began from a lower socio-economic background in Jharkhand, India, and progressed through to becoming successful at one of India's largest technical institutions, the National Institute of Technology (NIT) Warangal, where he was granted admission for the academic year 2025.
Kamal Kant Mahto, son of Ram Gahan Mahto, lives in Sahijana, Garhwa. After completing his Bachelor of Science degree with Honours in Physics from Namdhari College, affiliated with Nilambar Pitamber University, he became very passionate about physics and started preparing for the postgraduate-level of national competitions, such as the IIT Joint Admission Test for M.Sc. (JAM).
Success in IIT JAM requires more than just memorizing things; it requires students to be able to think critically and analytically about the treatment of the material as a whole and be able to develop a structured study plan to work toward attaining those critical skills. Therefore, Kamal Kant began reinforcing the foundational principles of physics through the use of guided preparation, and his preparation was structured around three main components: in-depth understanding of the physical concepts; developing methodologically to solve examination problems; and developing an exam-oriented mentality.
As indicated above, the IIT JEE, IIT JAM, and other entrance examinations require that students have the ability to view, analyse, and understand the problems being presented in order to determine how to respond, solve, and arrive at the best solution. By building upon his initial introduction to Physics through the courses taken at S.S.J.S. Namdhari College and developing his examination strategy throughout his time at college, Kamal Kant laid the groundwork to successfully develop a methodology that allowed him to succeed in the IIT JAM and ultimately become an IIT postgraduate.
The IIT JAM exam requires you to have a consistent and clear approach to getting the best results from your preparation rather than using your intellectual ability to get the best results possible. To make this work, you should break down your syllabus into smaller pieces — it will make studying more manageable for you. After breaking down each topic into smaller pieces, you can then build on what you know by focusing on concepts and practicing similar problems to see how well you understand the material you have just studied.
Kamal Kant placed great emphasis on doing mock tests. Rather than using them just as a way to check his progress, he treated them as a means to help him diagnose his weaknesses by examining what he did wrong on the test, where he made errors, and then refining how he approached the exam. Also, Kamal Kant used the question papers from previous years to get a good understanding of the exam structure and improve the way he manages his time during the exam.

Kamal Kant’s Journey to NIT Warangal
Kamal Kant worked hard to gain admission to the National Institute of Technology (NIT) Warangal in 2025. He spent many years working diligently as he prepared for this achievement through a disciplined study approach and a strong commitment to success. NIT Warangal is considered one of India's best technical institutes, and being able to attend such a school is an important goal for any Physics Graduate.
In gaining admission to NIT Warangal, Kamal Kant’s successful entry into an elite institution validates the method by which he achieved this success through Patience, Perseverance, and Continuous Self-Improvement.
Lessons Learned from His Preparation Strategy
As Kamal reflects back on his journey he shares with others a number of principles to remember while preparing for IIT JAM.
• Know the Syllabus Before You Start Preparing
• Understand the Concepts Instead of Memorizing
• Make Short Notes to Help with Revision
• Start Taking Mock Tests 3-4 Months Prior to the IIT JAM Exam
• Carefully Assess Your Mock Test Results After Each Test
• Regularly Practice Previous Year Questions
• Use Fewer but Standard Study Material
• Continue to be Consistent Daily; Consistency Within Small Actions Will Add Up Over Time
• Be Calm and Confident During Your Preparation
Kamal Kant stated:
“From Semester 3 to 6, I studied the B.Sc. academic syllabus under Ritesh Dwivedi. His guidance and teaching methods were extremely helpful, making it easier for me to understand concepts and perform well in my exams.
At first, you may lose confidence if your concepts are weak, but if you stay consistent and work on your concepts while preparing in parallel, you will achieve it. Best of luck!”
A Journey That Inspires
Kamal Kant Mahto has shown us that anyone, no matter where they are from, regardless of how they grew up, can accomplish many things in life by working hard and understanding what to do. His journey is an example of how anyone can succeed as long as they are willing to put forth their best effort, have a clear path, and remain committed to their goals.
At this time, Kamal Kant is continuing his educational journey at NIT Warangal with the same commitment that has brought him this far in his life. Kamal Kant's journey serves as a source of motivation for many students wishing to study Physics in order to prepare themselves for future studies and compete on tests.
