Guru Sindhu Waterfall, Garhwa: Exploring A Hidden Natural Treasure Of Jharkhand

Sukhaldari Waterfall is one of the most scenic places to visit in Jharkhand. It is located in a region with lots of hills and green forests. The students who attended the Sankalp Institute had the opportunity to visit Sukhaldari Waterfall and learn about the geography and tourism potential of the region while experiencing nature in a more personal way than they would through their academic schedule.

The Sukhaldari Waterfall is on the Kanhar River, about 60 km from the Garhwa District headquarters and about 8 km from the headquarters of Dhurki Block. The ride to the waterfall was an opportunity for the students to see what the rural environment of Jharkhand is like, with hills and forests.

As the students arrived, they were greeted by an impressive display of water falling from a height of approximately 100 ft. The sound of the falling water, against the backdrop of the green hills around the waterfall, created a peaceful and inspirational atmosphere. Many of the students found joy in sitting near the waterfall, watching the water fall, and enjoying the peaceful ambiance of the area. While visiting, students took photographs of the scene using their cell phones.

Around Sukhaldari Waterfall is a landscape characterised by natural beauty, cultural significance, and tourism potential. Student visitors observed a hillside temple popular among tourists and local worshippers alike. The Tourism Department has built a guest house to provide accommodation for visitors and has implemented various programs to promote tourism. In addition, stairs leading down to the waterfall have been constructed to provide safe access for students to understand how basic infrastructure aids in promoting tourism.

The students learned that in December and January, the Sukhaldari Waterfall attracts large numbers of visitors from surrounding states like Chhattisgarh, Uttar Pradesh, and Bihar. Many visitors come to Sukhaldari Waterfall with their families, who enjoy picnicking, making it a lively location during the winter months. The number of visitors increases significantly around New Year’s Day; therefore, police are stationed nearby due to the need for crowd control and security. The need for such planning by the tourism administration added further weight to the discussions during this visit.

Another topic of interest during the visit was the annual Makar Sankranti fair, held on 14 January each year. The students learned that this event is a means of bringing people together from nearby villages and creating cultural diversity within the area.

The journey to Sukhaldari Waterfall provided opportunities for students to learn how to access Banshidhar Nagar by train and then take an auto or private vehicle for 30 km to reach the waterfall. Travellers typically pack their own lunches since there are very few restaurants in that area. This small but practical detail helped students prepare for their trip.

The trip also provided students with information about additional attractions such as the Panghatwa Dam, located in the Dhurki Block. The dam is a beautiful location with lots of greenery and vast bodies of water. It is known for many types of birds and offers good opportunities for boat rides. This location was just as peaceful and informative for students’ appreciation of eco-tourism in the area as the waterfall.

The experiences gained from visiting Sukhaldari Waterfall contributed to the enjoyment and enrichment of Sankalp Institute students. The students not only experienced an adventure in nature but also gained increased awareness of eco-tourism culture. Overall, this experience taught them the importance of appreciating the environment and provided them with valuable educational experiences in one of Jharkhand’s most beautiful areas.
