The topography of Jharkhand consists of numerous waterfalls, lakes, and man-made water bodies. The varied height of the plateau and the abundance of rivers has created several scenic waterfalls and lakes throughout Jharkhand. 1. Usri Falls
Usri Falls is situated nearly 13 kilometres from Giridih town on the Giridih–Tundi Road in Giridih district. The waterfall is formed by the Usri River, from which it derives its name. Though comparatively smaller in height than some other waterfalls of the state, it is surrounded by dense forest cover that enhances its natural charm. An interesting feature of this fall is the slight upward rise of water before it plunges down. The site remains frequented by visitors throughout the year.
2. Kanti Falls
Kanti Falls lies approximately 6 kilometres from Senha village along the Chandwa–Kudu Road. Its accessibility and scenic environment have made it a well-known picnic destination.
3. Jonha Falls (Gautamdhara)
Jonha Falls, also known as Gautamdhara, is located on the Radhu River along the Ranchi–Purulia Road. It is named after the nearby Jonha village. The waterfall descends from a height of nearly 45 metres. The natural scenery becomes particularly attractive during the winter months. For the convenience of tourists, steps have been constructed to reach the base of the fall.
4. Dassam Falls
Dassam Falls is situated about 40 kilometres from Ranchi on the Ranchi–Jamshedpur Road. It is formed by the Kanchi River in the Taimara Valley near Bundu. The water falls from a height of about 44 metres. The stream is believed to split into several distinct channels while descending, which is associated with the origin of its name.
5. Panchghagh Falls
Panchghagh Falls is located nearly 14 kilometres from Khunti on the Chaibasa Road. After descending from a moderate height, the water separates into five streams, giving rise to the name ‘Panchghagh’. The surrounding environment is particularly pleasant during the winter season.
6. Budha Ghagh (Lodh Falls)
Budha Ghagh, popularly known as Lodh Falls, is situated about 14 kilometres from Mahuadanr. With an approximate height of 142 metres, it is regarded as the highest waterfall in Jharkhand. The waterfall is formed on the North Koel River. Its grandeur and scenic surroundings are especially impressive during the post-monsoon months.
7. Sukhaldari Falls
Sukhaldari Falls is formed by the Kanhar River at a location around 35 kilometres south of Untari. The waterfall has an estimated height of 30 metres.

8. Hundru Falls
Hundru Falls is one of the most renowned waterfalls near Ranchi. It is situated about 32 kilometres from the city in Angara block. The waterfall is created by the Subarnarekha River and has a height of approximately 98 metres (322 feet). It is considered the second highest waterfall in the state.
9. Hirni Falls
Hirni Falls is located along the Khunti–Chaibasa Road, slightly beyond Murhu. Though not exceptionally high, the fall is admired for its verdant surroundings and scenic beauty. It has emerged as a favored picnic spot.
10. Sita Falls
Sita Falls is situated nearly 45 kilometres from Ranchi on the Ranchi–Purulia Road. The waterfall is about 44 metres high and can be accessed by descending a series of steps. A temple dedicated to Sita is located nearby. Local tradition associates the site with the stay of Lord Rama during his exile.
11. Ghaghari Falls
Ghaghari Falls is formed on the Jamuni River in Lapung block of Ranchi district. The waterfall is approximately 40 metres high. A religious fair is organized nearby during the festival of Makar Sankranti.
12. Sadni Falls
Sadni Falls is located on the Sankh River in Gumla district. With a height of around 60 metres, the waterfall is known for its curved and graceful descent.
13. Upper and Lower Ghaghri Falls
The locations of both of these waterfalls are near the town of Netarhat, approximately 2 km and 8 km from the town. Therefore, they are regularly visited by both locals and tourists, mainly for recreation or picnics. Furthermore, they are enclosed by virgin forests and a beautiful natural landscape.
14. Tatapani
Tatapani is a thermal spring emerging from a hill region. It is located near Barwadih and Daltonganj. The hot water spring is noted for its geothermal properties and attracts visitors throughout the year.
15. Dimna Lake
Dimna Lake is located about seven km away from the city of Jamshedpur, India; its natural beauty and outstanding water clarity make it a desirable destination for tourists. In addition to providing an excellent location for picnics, this lake also provides opportunities for boating and other recreational activities.
